I enjoy everything about advertising & marketing which is why I chose it as my major at BYU. Along those lines, I love graphic design. I haven't posted any of my graphic design work here before, and while this blog is primarily about photography I've decided that graphic design lends itself to this creative space, so occasionally I might post some of the things I create.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This weekend the leaders of our church joined together to give us council in what we call General Conference. We had four sessions packed full of inspirational thoughts and uplifting stories of faith. It was a wonderful pick me up.

During the Saturday morning session one of my favorite apostles, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, shared some wonderful words about how individually important we each are to our Father in Heaven. I loved this quote:

"It may be true that man is nothing in comparison to the greatness of the universe. At times we may even feel insignificant, invisible, alone, or forgotten. But always remember - you matter to Him!" Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I decided to make it into a print.

{A Hero's Homecoming}

I was honored when my friend Jessamyn asked me to come take pictures of

her husband's homecoming from an 11 month deployment.

What an incredible way to spend a Saturday morning.

We waited in the hanger for what seemed like forever-

There were kids dressed in red, white and blue, balloons, banners,

a big brass band playing in the corner, news crews, wives dressed gorgeous

and sweet children excited to see their daddies.

We waited and waited, and then finally the plane landed.

I think it's safe to say everyone had chills and lumps in their throats as
the plane pulled full circle in front of the hanger where we were all watching.

The crowd of family members and friends pushed forward to get as close to the plane as they would allow.
Then, the first man stepped onto the stairs coming down from the plane
and the crowd burst into an uproar of excitement- screams and sobs
and the brothers next to me started to cheer "USA! USA!" raising their fists in the air.

Finally, after 11 months apart, the Barnette family was back together again.

It was a very touching experience, one I'll never forget.

They hugged and laughed and just stared at each other, smiling. It was wonderful.

Thank you Brian and Jessamyn for the sacrifices you've made for our country!

I'm so grateful for you and it was such an honor and privilege to be there to photograph such a special day. Thanks for letting me be a part of it.

Our close friends had their baby last week! Little Beckett is completely adorable. Holding him in the hospital just about melted me. It's going to be so much fun for Ashley and I to have boys the same age; they'll be rolling around on the floor together before we know it. Just one more month and I get to hold my own little one. Can't wait!

Another fabulous wedding completed. Becca looked stunning in her dress, and Dan looked pretty charming himself. It was a beautiful day! My only wish is that I had been more then 12 weeks along in my pregnancy & had a little more energy. I would have been all over taking so many more photos instead of sitting down in the shade at the temple & resting at the reception. Becca's mom and Aunt Rose are fabulous photographers and I can't wait to see all the photos they took! Love you Dan & Becca!

This is my sister's wedding. I've been staring at the pictures for a week now. Gosh, I took a lot of pictures! Just for fun & as a learning experience of course. Mikki {Captured By Mikki} was Kate's wedding photographer. It was really neat to take pictures along side a pro.

What a great day it was. I wish I could relive the whole thing from start to finish- only with a child who had a nap and wanted to smile for pictures. Yeah. That sounds nice. The ceremony was incredible & the reception gorgeous. And right now all I can think about is how great relaxing on Hamoa beach in Maui would be right now... so jealous.

{Kate & Matt's Wedding Dinner}

It was such a fun dinner! Lots of crying from my side of the family. I wrote Matt & Kate a poem; I was pretty happy with it. Everyone, including Matt & Kate did awesome.

[All of these shots were taken with an ISO of 1600. There was very romantic lighting at the dinner- (Joseph Smith Memorial Building.) I didn't want to be too intrusive otherwise I would have used my flash... but that would have killed the mood. So ISO 1600 was the best I had! Until this final shot of Kate, Matt & their friends of course.]

What a wonderful session! It was an honor to take pictures of the Palmers in celebration of their up coming sealing. We had to reschedule this session about ten times before this crazy Utah weather would cooperate! It would be bright and sunny one day and snow the next. These were all shot in very low light indoors at 7:00 at night- with an ISO of 1600.

I think they turned out pretty good considering the conditions.

Maybe some day I will be able to invest in some good lighting equiptment, but for now it's natural light all the way.

My good friend Cara was in town with her cute family last week so we got together for some pictures of their new addition, Grace. I've photographed newborns solo in their own environment before, but never out on location. It was such a great learning experience for me. There was a lot going on, but Grace was such a sweetheart throughout the whole process. She hardly made a peep- I couldn't believe it. Thanks Cara & Steve! Mt.Olympus I took this while we were driving on the freeway. Just as you get onto I-215. My parents live just at the base of this Mountain. I love it.

I may have gone a little crazy posting so many pictures of these sweethearts, but I couldn't help myself. They have been through a lot in their short time here. They were born weighing in at 2 pounds 3 oz, and 2 pounds 7 oz, respectfully. They spent 81 days in the hospital and now they are finally home. (They are precious and I can't wait until they're big enough to play with Natalie!)

My cousin Melissa got married last year and had the sweetest details at her reception. Loved it all. Three years ago my Aunt Kathy generously let us use her home for our reception and it was so fun to see it all decked out again. Beautiful! (As a side note, I did the flowers for Melissa's wedding and it was very stressful! I was especially nervous about making her bouquet. Phew. Just looking at these pictures brought back the panic.)

I've been doing a lot of studying up on Photography (mostly late at night, like right now.) I am fascinated. Really, truly- losing sleep over it- fascinated. I love photography and I love Photoshop. I've just been working with some photos I took of Natalie up the canyon a few weeks ago- just trying out some new photo techniques for fun.

All these pricey toys and yet a leaf is all she needs.
